International 430 plunger questions

Hello-

I just picked up a International 430 baler. Want to go through it and get everything adjusted before the season. Got the knotters and thrower all ready. Had some questions on the plunger, I do have the owners manual with plunger leveling instructions:

1. What is the best way to sharpen the plunger and stationary knife once I have them out of the baler to get the best sharp edge on them?

2. How can I change the plunger leveling rollers/bearings on the assembly that are on the plunger side opposite of the knife? Looks like these were installed with a special machine that pressed them on the shaft and put a special crimp on end of shaft to hold them on.

3. Can a guy replace the plunger rollers/bearings without removing the plunger from baler? Was able to the get the 1 roller out that held plunger knife onto plunger.

4. anyone have a copy of the service manual?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

I sharpen knives with a sidewheel grinder. Clamp the knife in a vise and get after it. Cant help on the other stuff.

Oldfarmall, Has been a while since I worked on one of those but I can look and see if I have any books left for those.

from 1976 to 1980 I was working at main IH dealer here in Mid Wales UK and i used to adjust the plunger runners to take up the wear but it is along time since i did it and it is important not to overdo so you perhaps had better find out correct procedure also take out knives to sharpen properly with grinder...string knives also need checking for sharpness but do not use grinder use sharpening stone
another important item to check is cam and cam rollers on pickup reel also pickup drive belt
remember to get shear bolts

I have a 430W Inc baler also. I have been
wondering about plunger bearings also. I
had trouble with baler feeding. Didn't have
any capicaty. Was the bearings on the
pickup teeth. The bearings were gone and
cam wore out. Easy fix. But not easy
getting pickup apart. I finally cut main
shaft into in the middle. Repaired cam and
bearings. Then welded shaft together again.
Shaft is one inch. 1" pipe will slide over
it. Easy to weld. Capicaty was more than
doubled.
