Big Bee Brush Hog

I have a Big Bee brush hog with the plastic covers over the shaft U-joints. On the front one you can easily get to the zerk fitting to lube but the rear one is covered by the plastic guard. The plastic guard will not budge. Is there a secret to moving the guard forward on the shaft to reach the fitting? Also, what is the best lube for the shaft to make it slide easier?

The operating manual has nothing to say about either.

I drilled a hole in the plastic pto guard a while back to get excess to grease the u-joint. I use oil, grease, wd40, or what ever is handy to lube the shaft. I pull the shaft apart for outside storage or even long term indoor storage so they don't freeze up together. Lube them good when put back together to use. If you don't want to drill the hole google is your friend to explain how to remove the plastic guard.
