used to see a ad for the bearing units and you supplied the rod,, we bought a rod weeder new in 76,, worked well to kill weeds if you plowed or at least kept your ground loose,, one thing we found out right away not to do was use it for the last pass when planting winter wheat,, we had a cheat grass issue from it as it seemed to bring the light seeds to the top so they sprouted better,, I liked the tool but found out with the acres we covered it was a maintenance night mare to keep the drives working the type you posted above removes all I hated from ours, which is now converted to a 36' wide leveler that works amazing!! I have seriously thought about doing what you are thinking for behind mine

I don?t want to deal with all that drive mess they were probably a good idea and worked 50 years ago when they were new . My dad had one like this one in the picture I wonder where I can get the bearings

Hear of those things, don't really know how they work or what they do.

In our heavy wet clay and rock, I'm not sure such a thing would do much? Sure looks like the chains would pull off if that rod or pipe is supposed to run in the dirt, can't imagine the extra hp needed in our type of dirt?

That sure is NOT what they used to call a rod weeder in sales lit or parts books. And they were used out west where they left half the farm lay every year to gain moisture as I understant it. Never saw one back here in Ohio.

I pull a 4 inch buy half inch think pipe behind the cultivator right now it doesn?t take much more power at all. When it really starts carrying dirt you?ll notice it?s back there a little
