Oliver 720 timing

My baler timing is a little off. When the needle protrudes into the chamber the plunger is about 6 inches further than the books says it should be.I think the book says to disconnect the tying mechanism chain to adjust. Not sure I feel comfortable doing that but can the tying mechanism be turned backwards to adjust? I'm thinking I can move the plunger back instead and retime the packing fingers . The timing issue may or may not be related to my tying problem. Only one side misses. The knot is always formed over the bale. Other string is cut off.If I make the bales lite it ties. Lite as in I can pick one bale up in each hand and carry two at a time, which is too lite.I really need a second person to help watch the tying process. Doesn't work turning flywheel a little at a time and walking back to see what's going on.

Paul, ally go for the easy stuff first. It is unlikely that your timing could be that far off. I would be checking the hay dogs for the problem that you are having.
