The meaning of life while I was changing a pitman stick today 😡😡 was opening up a rocky field I?d never cut before and hit a rock with the pitman and broke the stick in half

BUMMER S.V., now you see why I went shopping for a ih-100 belt drive mower, (down side of belt drive with no pitman arm to break I may be breaking something else) hopefully the belt slips! maybe set the cutter bar a bit higher?

The knife didn't hit a rock a rock it was the pitman that caught a rock sticking up while i was cutting to close to a rockpile bomgaars has them
for 22$ or John Deere has them for 18$ but bomgars is local

If you have some wood laying around I have made may of them out of just about any type of wood you can think off. It just can not split easy. So pine does not work well. White oak red oak ash, hickory all work well.

You have the old one to sue for a pattern. Saw and drill are all you need.

I have thought of making a few and maybe this winter I'll try it though about maybe using cedar but it might be A challenge to find a piece that's straight enough to use

That's the only problem I had with my no8. The pitman is exposed to oncoming rocks and stumps that you don't always see. I've had mine for 35 years and it's been a great mower. Keep your eyes open for parts mowers, not much is available from Deere.

That could work but I?m not sure anywhere near that I could get one . I think they might be to thin though
