Need help in identifying this plow

Hi All...I am trying one more time to see if anyone may know the identity of this plow. The plow came to me painted John Deere green but the seller stated that it is a McCormick plow. I have all but exhausted you tube and Google Search trying to find this plow. The closest I can come to is the IH 215 plow yet the 215 is a 2 bottom plow. I don't know if it is a true 3 bottom plow or a 2 bottom plow with a kit add-on to make it 3 bottom? I'm at the end of my rope so any help is TRULY appreciated!!

(quoted from post at 14:07:30 09/16/18) Is there any casting numbers on it anywhere ,

I have not seen any casting numbers but I may be looking in the wrong places. I would think casting numbers would be visible without taking the plow apart but thats my thinking for you. The plow does have extra parts being side plates for the frogs and points (look like metal arrows) and I believe these parts are of one type of Chieftan plow parts yet I cant say for sure.

It looks like a 309A. I have a 209 two point hitch two bottom and it looks the same except yours a three point. john

Hi Big Papa
Haven't been to my sons house yet but your post got me looking in a different area. I did a Google search for Super Chieftain plow and found a 3 pt hitch 3 bottom plow just like mine. The shares and moldboards look different than mine though the landslides are the same. I will try to post a pic of the shares etc that are on this plow. I have read that some want to change their plows over to Chieftain plow shares but the frog prices make that prohibitive. Another person answered my post saying it might be a 309A. I will have to check that out soon. So to you and those who have offer advice...thank you!]

I have a I-H 3x16 plow that looks just like it. Never did know the model number though. I've got parts for it at my I-H dealer. I dropped the rear bottom on it and remounted the tail wheel on the second bottom.

FYI, part numbers on the bottoms won't help you identify the plow frame, because any plow could come equipped with any bottom.

Also, they are Plow CHIEF bottoms, not ChiefTAIN. Super CHIEF is the name of the modern bottoms still in production. Best way to upgrade is to find another plow with them, and transfer them over.

Gentlemen...I can't thank each of you enough for your thoughts and inputs! It has been over 50 yrs since I rode a J.D. 50 or B pulling a J.D. rope trip or hydraulic 2 bottom plow. While I'm familiar with many plow parts, the names given to plows like the I.H. series do tax me. I am trying to teach my youngest son what I can remember about farming but it has changed so much since I was a teen. Still, learning to till and plant crops on small acreage is something that may come of value in the future. After we change out some parts on the plow we will see how it goes. As mentioned by one of you...we may remove the third section and remount the furrow wheel. My only other planned purchase would be a Ford 101 3 bottom but saving the money comes first. Again gentlemen...thanks to each and every one of you. All of you...be well!!

Steve
