Vermeer round balers?

Is there any reason Vermeer balers seem to be "dogs" on the market? They always seem to bring less at auctions even when they look good. People will pay more for a beat up New Holland than a shiny Vermeer. I can't find anything particularly bad about Vermeers, but I can find plenty of trash talk about New Hollands.

I'm talking specifically auctions. Dealers are proud of everything they have for sale regardless of color, and private sellers tend to go by what the dealers are asking, rather than provide a realistic price.

There is a 605 for sale on the way to town. Been there well over 6 months. No takers. I talked with the guy. If you look over at his equipment lineup
guess what shiny new color is over there.....with yellow wheels? Green is boss around here. I've been here 40 years and I remember one guy that had
one years ago. Other than the one for sale, and a couple at a local used equipment yard, I haven't seen any others being used. Green is in my barn.

It's pretty much a regional thing, I suppose based on dealer support. Some areas you'll find mostly Vermeer and never see a JD. Around here you'll find mostly NH, with only the occasional Vermeer or JD. Vermeer makes an excellent baler.

(quoted from post at 13:10:39 09/18/18) beats me it will bale greener --faster tighter etc we work on all brands and Vermeer is far better

Down here where I live one would wear out a new pickup driving around looking for very many Vermeer or NH rd balers in the field baling hay. On a side note because of abundance of gopher & fire ant mounds one doesn't desire to set any land speed records baling hay

Around here there are a lot if them behind Orange, Red, green tractors. There are also a lot of NH and old
greens. Vermeer bring as much as any other baler around here.

IMHO - color and lack of a dealer network.

Can't speak for the older Vermeer round balers, but from what I've read, the late model/new round balers are excellent
machines.

That has nothing to do with brand.
The 605 has been made since 1972, starting with the A model. Pretty common to still see the early B and C models being used and for sale, but 40 year old balers aren't in real high demand except by the occasional hobby farmer. Same reason you'll see old NH 847-853 balers for sale. They work, but most people want something newer.

The latest one that really got me thinking about this was a 605M model at a consignment sale last month. That's a pretty recent model if I'm not mistaken.

Supposedly only had 5500-ish bales through it, and did not look abused at all. Brought $5800 as I recall. I know it was under $6000.

There was an older Claas just up the row that had been through the war. Someone had tried to bale a telephone pole with it apparently, partially ripped the pickup off, then welded it back on haphazardly and crooked. That one brought $3800.

We upgraded to a Vermeer from our agco. Absolutely love it.
Bales are tight and square cornered. Parts are 40 miles away
is the only downfall and the dealer isn?t real helpful. The
machine is far superior to the others in my opinion. I can see if
you roll thousands of bales the dealer will be more important
than the machine in many cases. Ours is a 504m.
