I attend the local tractor show in Lynden WA and there is usually a guy selling corn mill. He has a pretty big mill hooked up to a belt drive off a tractor. I would like to go smaller, but also drive it
off the belt drive on my Oliver Super 55. Any suggestions if any such thing exists. I know there are lots of feed grinders around, but I need one for cornmeal. Any information as to a make or
model would help. When I google corn grinders, I see a lot of kitchen counter coffee grinders.

I have an old grist mill I'd sell. But it is PTO drive and has not been used in who know how long.

I think what you are looking for is called a burr mill, made in different sizes by different companys. Some belt and some PTO, newer more likely to be PTO.

I cannot say much about it. It was given to me by a guy I did some work for and all I know is that it is on it own trailer sort of thing and has a PTO drive. I parked it where it is some 10 plus years ago and never messed with it

I would think that you could used a belt driven bur mill, How many hp does your super 55 have?
A 10 inch bur mill with a 16 to 20 hp motor running the bur mill at 1000 rpm will grind about 30 bushels per hour...so the super 55 will be a little large to run the bur mill with a hp of 34 hp on the belt pulley.......have you ever seen bur mill?

I am not very knowledgeable on any mills. I know a burr mill has plates that have teeth on it and you can adjust how close the plates are. A friend of mine has one, but we are not sure if it is for corn meal grinding or for grinding feed. He has no information on the mill he has, and we don't even know the make. It has a large hopper, that feeds the burr plates. It is belt driven. He has never used it. Knowing my friend, he probably salvaged it. He has a knack for picking up equipment and fixing them up.
I wanted to have one to do demos at shows.

Is there really a difference between grinding corn meal and grinding feed, except maybe how close you set the plates?

Yes their is on bur mills, If you want to grind cob corn with a bur mill you need a mill with cob breakers in it. Some bur mills were only designed to grind small grains and shell corn. while the ones with a cob breakers you could grind whole cobs with husk and small grains and shell corn. The cob breaker break up the cob and remove the corn from cob so it can enter the burs.
With the newer hammer mills you can grind grain into flour but with the antique hammer mills you maybe able to grind grain into flour but it will be extremely dusty and dirty.
I know an organic grain grower that uses a newer hammer mill to grain all it grains into flour and then sifts it and bags it for sale to the public. I have 5 IHC bur mills of different sizes and 3 IHC hammer mills of different sizes in working order..

Maple Ridge, BC. I know that is not the best location to find equipment. Seems like 90% of items are in the east, just because of the population over the years. I may see if I can make corn meal off my friends if a burr grinder will work. I know that his is that type.

Hello Again, So does anyone here have a parts book for a international Harvester Meadows White Flint Granite Grist Mill? This Grist Mill consisted of two white flint granite bur plates that ground the grain into meal and flour......this is a belt driven mill from teens and early 20's....I found a repainted meadows grist mill instructions book on ebay....but I am looking to date a mill prior to the time it takes for them to ship it to me I would like to try to date the mill in the next couple of days......Any help would be great, Thanks, Kevin

I have a New holland burr mill I use for making chicken scratch and mash. It will grind corn kernels into small pieces or down to a powder by just a simple adjustment on the plates. This may be what you are looking for.

Yes, I think I may have found one that will work. I have my pto shaft out of my Super 55 right now, putting in a new O-ring. My belt pulley runs off the pto like this one in the photo. Could you let me know what size belt you are running there please? Once I get my tractor back together and find a belt. I am going to give it a try. By the way, do you have any tips on setting up the belt and grinder? I have never done that before. Do you have the tractor grounded with a metal bar? I seem to remember you can get a static electricity build up.

We never grounded a tractor for the buzz saw, hammer mill or corn shreader. All belt driven and just staked down with no connection to tractor except belt. Your tractor pully will be a 6" face pully so do not go any wider but you can go narrower. Just measure the driven pully and match it.
