Replace condenser on 1940 JD H tractor w/magneto

I've never gotten into a magneto. I'm familiar with points and condenser in standard distributor. I would like to replace the condenser based on some advice from a previous post. Any advice would be appreciated.

The Wico Mag is very similar to your run of the mill distributor inside. As far as replacing points and condenser. The only difference is the Mag generates its own juice to excite the coil.

I would recommend a new coil. The HD coil is more expensive. However, it will make a noticeable difference in starting. (The HD coil is not available for the Wico C mag) I would replace the coil, points and condenser while I had the mag apart. Check the contacts for the rotor and cap making sure they are clean and not pitted. If this does not fix the mag, the only item left is to recharge the magnets on the rotating shaft. Roberts can provide the parts. Everything can easily be changed with typical skills, except the magnet charging.

Since you got it cranking, I would just clean and polish the points and check the gap.
Try it a while and if you have more trouble, then go deeper into the magneto.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Like some of the others said below, I just turn the flywheel slowly and don't try to spin it.
My right shoulder is so bad, I can't spin it over fast.
