John Deere B front wheels

I have a 39 B with solid F&H front wheel cast centers. The rims look like farmall A or B rims. Anyone seen these before or know if they are rare or not?

If these are the wheels you are refereeing to then yes very rare. I have only seen them a couple of times. Daughter's 37 is the on in the background with these wheels. 49 is in the forground almost done now.

Yes they are very rare for a B. They are variable
tread fronts and should have the casting number
W276A. Good find!

I can post pics of what the rims should look like. They have pieces of angle iron attached to them.
This type of wheel was also made by F&H for several other tractor models.

Please do. I am restoring this tractor and I like oddball parts you don't see every day. I have mostly Farmall and Case tractors but I'm not bias. I like em all!

Here's a pic of the Farmall F-20 variation of the same wheels you have. The original rims have 4 angle iron brackets attached to them with countersunk rivets. Your "B" wheels used 3.00 X 15" rims. You can also see in this pic how the rims were reversed making them variable tread with two settings. This type of wheel was common in listed crop areas where planting was done between furrows. The wide setting for the fronts helped the tractor to straddle the ridges when cultivating. Your cast centers have extra holes drilled in them to mount the incorrect rims. Given the scarcity of your wheels it would be worth the effort to plug and smooth out the extra holes and find a set of correct rims.

That is very cool! I will be hunting for some of these rims and brazing or welding the extra holes shut. I have the tractor completely disassembled and started cleaning up. Hopefully it will be running by New Years.

Thank you

You're going to have a tough time finding those rims in the correct size for the B. All of the other tractors that used this wheel setup had 16" rims. I'm thinking about making some of these rims new but I need to get measurements for the angle brackets on the B version.
