The Shop Manual, cautions that a COPPER washer be used under the front left corner cap screw of upper water pipe when attaching it to the manifold. Can someone explain why the washer needs to be copper?
Thanks in advance to your replies.
This forum has been and continues to be a tremendous source of helpful information!

Thanks Mike, for the prompt reply!! Yes, that bolt goes right through the block. Now to locate a copper washer.
Reassembling from the governor/ fan assembly and trying to take advantage of this warm day in an unheated garage.

Where in NE Ohio are you?
We are in Ontario, 2 hrs N of Watertown NY near Perth.
We go "by you" at least once a year to Cedar Point.

That copper washer came with the engine gasket set I got when I reassembled my B. Otherwise you could always try a local hardware store.

You could just use a thread sealer instead of the copper washer. I'm a half hr south of Watertown in Lowville.

Thanks to tall, for the comments and suggestions.
I did locate the 4 bolts and washers for the upper water pipe that I had carefully stored away. Low and behold there was a copper washer on the shorter of the three bolts! I also happened to have a container of Permatex thread sealer.
Got the governor and fan shaft assembly installed as well as the upper water pipe this afternoon.
I'm addicted to this forum, and am most impressed with the information sharing!
