One of my inlaws neighbors has a several hundred acre farm. He used to raise beef cattle. Several years ago he had medical problems that put him out of business. Now he leases out most of the property for crops. The people leasing have all of their own equipment. He has 3 JD's in a run in shed. The smallest is a 2510. I've been looking for something in the 50HP range. The tractor is straight, clean, no grease, as in dripping or caked all over, brand new tires on the rear. If it is in good running condition, which knowing how he takes care of his equipment, it will be. What should I expect to pay, or offer him. I looked on tractordata and they only made that model for 3 years in the 60's. I have a Massey 135 in about the same shape that I paid $1000 for. The Massey is a Z145 gasser, the 2510 is a diesel. Thanks, Joe.

Hello Joe. It's been awhile since I bought a 2510, I think they are a great tractor so I may be a little biased.

In TractorHouse the average auction price is $4900. Average retail price is $8600. I would add in that era many were gas. Being a diesel that should put upward pressure on the numbers here. What are the hours on that tractor? If low and well cared for that would put additional upward pressure on these numbers.

And of course it depends on how much you want a 2510. Personally I would be really excited if the hours are low, it was well cared for, and the shifting, etc. is tight.

Good Luck. Maybe others will have better input.

Joe, here is something I copied from Fastline. There are only 13 samples but it all helps. So what year is this tractor? Looks like year might have some impact. Also, what transmission? Powershift will push the price up. That high price tractor is a high crop.

Obviously these are all asking prices.

Paul

2510 and 2520 are in demand as both working tractors and as collectables. I would expect it to out sell a 4020 in similar condition, closer to $10K than $5K.

Wow, I didn't think it would be more desirable than a 4020. An other friend has a 4020 and it seems like a lot more tractor. The owner is a friend of my MIL. I'll ask her to see if they might want to sell it. My wife and I went for a walk past their farm today and I just peeked in the shed. He has several other old tractors under cover or just sitting in the fields. A couple big IH's. He has a Wood Mizer LT 70 saw mill and was going to mill a couple Cherry logs for me just before he got sick. I thought he had a stroke, but my wife said she thought he had a ruptured aneurysm. Anyway, he can't farm anymore. Back when I was a teenager, in the 70's, I had a JD 2010 diesel and loved it. I know lots of folks think the 2010 was the biggest dog JD ever made, but, I loved mine. It's probably out of my price range. I only have about $3000 to play with and I don't want to sell my Massey. It stays on my hunting property in WV. This 2510 just seemed like a 2010 on steroids. I'll still ask and if I get it I'll post pics, Joe

It is a nice size tractor. I had to use mine on the 12 ft hay mower and round baler last summer when the 4020 was down. It
handled them just fine. If it is a diesel in good shape it is worth some money. I wouldn't take less than $7500 for mine, and
that is if I had to sell it.

Joe that JD 2510 is in an entirely different league than a JD 2010 or a MF 135. They are a really nice tractor and are very collectable. Since it is a diesel with new rear tires, I would bet it would bring over $10K at any action you would want to take it to. I see junk non running ones bring $3000-4000.

A 2510D in condition you describe will bring more than the $3000 you have to play with. All you can do is ask and see if the number works for both of you.No comparison between 2010 or Massey.

I bought this last year. It's a gas and
needs more work than i thought when I bought
it.
