Hi guys, posting for my dads tractor, has the marvelous Zenith factory carb on it. Rebuilt on the bench a year ago or so, has year old coil, and electronic ignition conversion. Has a coating fuel tank a few years ago, tractor runs great except every once and a while just falls on its face. Last year didn't happen once.... year before and this year headaches once again. What do you guys suggest? Thinking reman Carb.... would try a float for the carb we have but haven't found a source for a new one. This site has the reman for $300 ish... looking for ideas... about to sell it and go diesel. Thanks

Do some simple trouble shooting before any parts.
#1 check that you have a good blue/white spark at the center wire of the distributor cap and at all the plugs wires that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more.
#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes.
#3 when was the last time the air cleaner was serviced.??

Hook up a timing light so you can watch it as it dies and see if it still has spark. This will help narrow down if it is fuel or electrical related.

Check the Distributer wires for the points . They corrode and lose contact. Sand them to bright and use dielectric grease .

Your last option of thinking replacing with diesel would be best. Some love the gassers and it appears you have done the proper changes to help.Make sure you buy a good one otherwise diesels have problems too.

I have a 3010 did the same thing, did all the fixes that everyone mentioned. Finally found out the exhaust manifold was cracked and when it got hot it did the same thing. the hot air took out a small chunk of the intake gasket and it would suck too much air and die . hope this helps Bob

Ok guys.... it is for sure fuel. I mispoke it's the Marvel Schebler USX 35 carb. Today only run on full choke and die if choke off at all. pulled off fuel line and
filter, cranked and good fuel. Took off the carb... pulled the back plate and float is hanging up on carb. wall. Pulled the float looks like one side foam material is
swelling and degrading. Anyone know where to find a new float? Thanks guys!

First place to check for a float would be a JD dealer but be ready to pay for it, it is JD green and yellow. I would also after checking there check this site I bet it Y-T has it, it would be cheaper but may take longer to get.

If possible a new or correctly rebuilt Zenith cab would be best place to start. I read very few good comments about MS carbs.

Thanks all... so update found a brass float replacement for the USX35... installed tonight and so far two hours run time and no problems. I think the old foam float was deteriorating on one side and hanging on the side of the carb. Fingers crossed!
