Looking at a middle aged (4500 hours) 5400 to replace my 10000+ hour 2240. Thing is, I have a custom loader for the 2240 which I have fixed with a skidsteer QA to match my bale spike, bucket, forks, bale grabber etc. When removed from the tractor, everything, masts and all come off easily. I love it and would like to see if I could adapt it to the 5400. So that is the first question: is that feasible? The 2240 is supposed to be 63" wide according to Tractor Data but tractor data doesn't give a width for the 5300 (it's in another state, so Ihaven't actually seen it) but they "look' about the same size and are the same length

Second question, it that weren't possible, and I had to use the JD loader that comes with it,how hard or easy is it to get rid of Deere's proprietary hooks and rig it for a skid steer QA loader attachment?. I know anything is possible if you want to spend enough $, but is it practical?

The loader was made for my tractor in a welding shop in Canada and has never let me down and I have just rebuilt the bucket. The tractor, not so much, but she's ok for such an older one.

I'm not following the width(63'') as wheel tread widths can be changed on both model tractors. Mounting frames for frt end loader are a lot different for JD 20-55 utility tractors than the 5000 series utility tractors PLUS hyd valves are different(2240 is closed center while 5300 is open center). It's possible hyd valve could be converted with correct plug & additional PBY hose.

A lot of JD loaders can be switched to skid steer. A couple of manufacturers to look at are Worksaver and Washburn. Here is a link to one
