john deere 2940 hydrualic remotes

dad has a 2940 he said light came on to change hydraulic fluid, he change fluid and filter and light is still on, no loader on tractor. hooked haybine up other day and it doesn't have enough pressure to raise it up, was working fine until after changing the fluid & filter

That light isn't telling you to change the oil, its telling you there is no transmission oil pressure. The lack of pressure here will also starve the front pump and cause no hi pressure functions. To start you will need to check the inlet screen in the bottom of the transmission for possible plugging. After that further investigation will be required to check for transmission pump or piping failure. Also possible are leaks within the hi/lo or pto circuits

I will second that the Light is not to change the filter. The light tells you that your hydraulic pressure is low. So you have troubles that will require some diagnosing.

The shame is the JD 2940 is not an easy tractor to always figure out hydraulic issues on. Can be simple but also can be darn expensive on those models.

I will not trade in a JD 2840/2940, or 2950 because of the commonality of costly hydraulic problems.

Common causes for hyd failure on 2940 besides clogged sump screen is leaking hyd oil supply tubes for hyd hi-lo &/or hyd ind pto. After checking sump screen then test hyd function with hi-lo in both speeds & pto disengaged & engaged. Check to be sure filter relief valve(keys 10-12) isn't stuck open.

As long as there is not fine grey metal material in the screen and filter from brakes making metal to metal contact . The problem(s) can be solved for a “reasonable “ amount .
What brand of hydraulic oil and is there any contamination from water ? Rain water running through rotten shifter lever boots is all too common.
