Hello All, I know that my new tractor is not an antique, but hoping I can get some help here nonetheless. An update to my long term problematic newer tractor.

Some months back I posted questions concerning blow-by, emulsified oil in the filler neck, using coolant and a rough idle... well I assumed then, and I think many would, that I had a blown head gasket. Well, pulled the head off a few weeks ago, had it magnafluxed, media blasted, and machined. It was .008" out, thought that was the problem, while there the reground the valve seat and put new guides in. I did manage to put a little scratch in the head (from a stud when putting it on the head), but pretty sure it was out side of the fire ring, and on the opposite side of all the coolant/pushrod passages.

Where we are now, and why I am writing. I got her running and she sounds great, still lots of blowby, so pretty sure I need to rebuild it proper next summer, but the worst part is she is still using water. In fact the oil fill neck had actual water drops, big ones, in it. The water pump is gear drive and it right above the injection pump / oil fill neck. Anyone heard of a them leaking? I am so hoping thats it. If it's not it must be a crack in the block somewhere.

At this point their has been enough water in the block that all the bearing are likely junk, just hoping to catch it and keep her running over the winter. Then next summer dissassemble and plan then what to do. I imagine a short block is at least $2000 for it. Oh yeah, engine's a Perkins 1103C-33T. Supposed to be a bullet proof awesome engine.... mine has clearly been abused.

Gear driven water pump seals can fail too, allowing coolant into the oil. I would service that first. Most should have a bleed hole to the outside to show when the seal starts leaking, but the hole can get plugged over time and force coolant into the engine instead. Worth a look.
