3 point jerking.

The lift is jerking going up and continues when at the top. I replaced the hydraulic piston ring and seal but no help. Just noticed that if I put the diverter valve straight up that one of the 2 remote hoses jerks. Put it straight forward and the other remote jerks(first one quits). Put it straight down and have no response at all. I think the pump is bad. Any advice?

What I am asking is if the remotes jerk also does that mean the pump is bad. Doesn't putting the diverter valve to remote operation bypass all other internals except the pump and the standpipe? I really don't know.

Hello Deane -

I ran into this with one or more defective cylinders in the pump. Sometimes o-rings (visible with spurts when running with a load on the 3-point), mostly valves and pistons.

Tried using repair kits - waste of money.

New cylinder bodies and pistons aren't that expensive.

If it was water in it the hydraulic/transmission fluid will usually have yellow cloudy look to it, no water it should be transparent with a little color in it. You could always drain the fluid into clean containers to see what you have.

Water is not good for any part of the hydraulic pump especially if the tractor had been sitting long enough that the water was allowed to settle at the bottom.

X2. When i first got mine it had roughly 2 gallons of water in it. Hadn't been run in several years and it had all separated. Various freeze/thaw cycles had literally broken the pump.
When you changed the fluid did you let it drain over night or just do a quicky change? Check your fluid color as it might still have water in there if you only did a quick drain. Took me 3 changes to get all the water out and have the fluid stay clear. Of course it was after that i realized the pump had to come out but still.
