Hydraulic issues

just bought a MF 165. So I do not know the history of the tractor. It has a pto pump that runs the loader. I did have the lines to the pump off they were not routed well and the pump was not mounted securely. I did add quick connects in both the pressure and return lines. The loader is real slow to move and after a while the fluid foams out the vent. The fluid is not low. I thought it would work the air out I have run it a few times several days apart. Do I have a pump problem or could their still be that much air in the system? As much foam that has come out I would have thought the air would be out by now.

Get rid of the quick disconnects, especially the one on the inlet side of the pump. Any restriction on the inlet side of the pump will cause cavitation which isn't good for the pump.

Hi, in reading the question that was my
first thought before I read PT's answer.
Full-flow couplings are available but they
are very expensive. Make sure that the
inlet pipe bore is larger than the outlet.

I will remove the couple and see what happens thanks. Since this is a pto driven pump I need to pull it off at times to use the pto. so was hoping to use the quick connects.
I would like to change the pump out for one that drives off the front of the crank but not sure that is an option on a 165. Looks like there is no spot in the frame for it.

I would try to figure out a way to take the pump off the pto shaft, and try to find a place where I could hang it so that's out of the way. A front mount pump is also possible, MF loaders had brackets that bolt on the front to allow mounting a pump off the front.

Somewhere on the internet I have seen an extension for the PTO shaft that goes into the back end of the PTO pump so you can hook up a PTO shaft. I know my PTO pump has plenty spline left after I put it on to put an extension on. I've thought of making something up to keep it from coming out but have never really needed to do it.

Thanks I will have to take a closer look at the front of the tractor. I thought it looked like the power steering would be in the way.
As it is I will be putting a new pto shaft in before hay season. An extension was put on the pto shaft and then the pump on the extension and was not secured well. The extension wore out the shaft and the inside of the extension. It wobbles a lot.

I removed the coupler on the intake. The pump works well now no foam and loader moves at a normal rate. Now I have a new problem. The cylinders need to be rebuilt. It will not lift a hay bale. It lifts ok for a foot or 2 and then gets progressively slower It will not lift above about 4 feet and at that height it starts falling at a pretty good rate down to that 2 foot height range. It about has to be fluid leaking past the seals internally.
My pump still moves more than I like even with it mounted securely to the draw bar. I think I will replace the pto shaft next before I take the rams off to get them rebuilt.
Does it matter what position the PTO lever is in when you pull the shaft. Will stuff fall out of place if I remove the shaft?
