Changing intake/exh manifold gaskets on '73 175 gas tractor. I hear you laughing already. LOL Intake blew out , changing all. Here's problem.... ALL nuts are off studs....intake , I know is free but exhaust is solid and will NOT budge. Probably still got the factory steel shim type exh gaskets on it. How to break this unit loose without busting castings ?? I'm sure I'm not the first to experience this. Thanks in advance, for any secrets or tricks of the trade.

I'd try shaking the muffler top back and forth gently to break any rust buildup loose around the four exhaust studs. Hopefully after awhile you will see some movement. Just be thankful you have the AG4.236 Perkins, and not the really morphadite Continental G-206. Only ever saw one of those years ago. If you ever had a Perkins diesel you'd throw rocks at the gas..

Thanks. I just didn't know if there was any secret I should know. We've tried slamming it on the bolt flange with block of wood and sledge to no avail. I'm going to start a soak regimen tomorrow with PB Blaster about every few hrs around flanges. I agree on the diesel vs gas deal. If diesel , a leaking/blown out intake gasket wouldn't affect running like a gas. I'll post as to progress. Thanks again.

Well , dieseltech, after soaking flanges a few times and using the sledge on the bolt-on elboe (figured if it broke it's only $ 20 or so) , the thing came loose. Now I can begin to rock it with pipe. Is raining now so when stops will get my thin wedges out and wedge behind flanges same time rocking it. Sheesh, gittin' too old fer this crap. LOL
