Massey Ferguson 224 square baler

Had the bushing bad in an older #9. It will eat shear pins....

Biggest job was getting the flywheel OFF the baler. One big washer and allen head on the #9.

Once the flywheel is off the bushings are accessible. I ended up putting on another flywheel that had good bushings.

They wear only when shear pins break and PTO is left going. Irony was the machine with the worn out bushings was like new otherwise with paint inside the pickup. Good bushings were on one that had baled 30 years.

I cannot help you on a Massey. But on a NH it is not a really difficult job. Lift the flywheel off with a boom pole
lay it down, remove the old, install the new bushing, reinstall the flywheel, adjust to specs in manual. Overall a
pretty simple operation. A bit of heavy lifting that a couple strong guys might do faster.

Did a #12 a couple years ago. I'd replace the business the shear bolts go through as well at the same time. Really made a difference with ours when I did it. Replacement was simple with a press. If you don't have one, find someone that does for the shear bushings. I don't think the one in the center of the flywheel was too bad to replace. Everything was available from the AGCO (Massey) dealer, just had to be ordered in.
