MF 165 Diesel Alternator Not Charging

Hi, I have a MF 165 that I can't get
alternator to charge. It has been this way
for awhile so I have been jumping it off. I
decided to replace the alternator thinking
it was bad with a 7127 one wire alternator
from Advance Auto and it still isn't
charging. I jump the oil pressure switch
and checked all wires but still not
charging. Would a bad ammeter not cause it
to charge? I have one wire from alternator to
right side of ammeter and a wire there to
ignition switch. The left side of ammeter I
have a wire going to oil pressure switch
and to the positive battery terminal on starter. The
other side of ignition switch goes to
neutral switch and the a wire from the
other side of it to the positive terminal
on starter. The other side of pressure
switch goes to fuel gauge. I think I have
it wired correctly? Any ideas? Thanks.

Forget the amp meter and put a volt meter on it. Then run a #8 or 10 wire directly from the alternator post directly to the positive post of the battery. Make sure you have a good ground on the alternator. When running you should see about 13.5 to 14 volts on the volt meter. Depending on the alternator you may need to rev the motor up to start it charging, once it starts you can slow the motor if you want and it will continue to charge.
