My Repaired Massey 65

I'd like to give thanks to everyone who helped me here with servicing and repairing this old tractor.
I've used it now bush hogging and scraping the road and it seems to perform well. Everything on it works now as it should.
The rear lift arms are now rebuilt as well the short tailpipe under the foot rest has been added.
I even ran it down the road a short way to see just how fast it would go... 35 mph by the tractor meter at 1600 rpm. That was really cooking along to me.

Looks really good, but 35 mph I don't think so (not to bust the fun you had running it all out on the road). I clocked my brothers MF150 with multipower with 13.6 x 38 rear tires pulling a 315 new Holland baler at 23 mph on flat paved road. I drove the 150 back on the same road without pulling anything at 23 mph, and it felt like I was going a lot faster than that even though I knew I wasn't.

To go that fast, you will have to remove the planetary gears at the end.

I do not know which trumpet works to increase speed, but I have heard the old masseys can be made to go super fast.
More likely, by either modifying a MF135 gearbox with 65 gears, or by putting 35 rear axle on i.e. a French 42.

Any facts on this?

Probably the only way to make one of these go fast is with multipower, 65 rear end gears, and regular axles (no planetaries) with a 13.6 x 38 tire. Plus, or a gasser with the governer disconnected.

You guys got me questioning the meter now, that was the only thing I had to go by. I'm going to get my bride to follow me and see what the vehicle speedometer says.
I'll find out tomorrow when I go to Moms.

At any rate with that open cab, it sure seemed fast

When you are up there with no cab, in the breeze it does make it feel like you are going faster. Plus if you take a quick look at the back tires while you are going that makes it look like you are moving along pretty good.

I took back out on the road with my bride pacing me, and just like you guys said it was much lower than it felt.
She said 24 mph, but hey, it was fun and felt much faster.
