135 fuel gauge

Fuel is diesel. Gauge has been working great. Fuel was low. When I noticed the gauge again it was EMPTY. Needle wasn't moving at all. Poured in five gallons and the needle never moved. After hours of mowing, needle still says empty. What gives?

Might be the sending unit in the tank is bad. Dash gauge can be tested with the engine running, Ground the wire to the sending unit. Gauge will read full if working correctly. Also note diesel models use an oil pressure switch to energize the fuel gauge and charging system when oil pressure rises, so if that switch goes bad fuel gauge won't turn on either. Sending unit floats can go bad too.

Thanks for the suggestions. I put a meter on the sending unit. No power. Checked at the gauge. No power. Gauge power comes through a short wire from a voltage regulator lug. Checked at the lug connecter. No power. That adds a new wrinkle. Haven't spent any more time on it yet.

This is a diesel. If power to the fuel gauge is controlled by an oil pressure sensor, how do I find that sensor? Can't trace the wire from the gauge because it goes to the voltage regulator.

if she's a diesel I believe there is a pressure switch teed off the back of the oil pressure gauge to activate fuel gauge when the tractor is running.
