Alternator wiring question

Internal regulated alternator. Wire from B terminal goes to B term of Switch. Second wire from B term jumpers to Alternator 2 wire plug. Other wire from alternator plug goes to B terminal of switch. Anyone have a diagram of how it should be wired?

Try this. Output of alternator should go to one side of ammeter, other side of ammeter to battery cable at starter switch. Alternator side of ammeter feeds the light and ignition switches

#2 on alternator to output of alternator

#1 on alternator to output of ignition switch through a diode, lamp, or resistor. Without this device engine may continue to run when switch is turned off

What model tractor do you have?

Have you actually determined that you have a discharge or are you just seeing the ammeter reading toward negative?

What voltage do you have across the battery posts with tractor running?

If it was original 6 volt positive ground and was changed to 12 volt with alternator, the alternator unless specially modified must be negative ground. If still positive ground the alternator is probably fried.

If converted to negative ground were the ammeter wires reversed?

Its a 1959 MF65. PO changed to 12 volt with internal regulator alternator. Pos ground. With battery cable unhooked I measure 5 volts between terminal and cable. Didn't have ability to measure amps. If cable is left on, battery will discharge overnight.

Wish Radio shack was still around. The place that was radio shack cannot get me diodes like the old 276-1661 so I now have to use a ballast resister instead

"PO changed to 12 volt with internal regulator alternator. Pos ground"

It is a minute possibility you have an alternator specially modified for positive ground.

It is more likely you have a Delco alternator designed for negative ground that someone installed battery positive ground. This will instantly blow some diodes in alternator.

Disconnect large lead from back of alternator and tape it so it won't short. Disconnect plug from edge of alternator. Connect battery and see if it still discharges overnight.

If battery holds charge you have bad alternator. If so get a rebuilt Delco 3 wire unit. Negative terminal on coil goes to distributor, connect ammeter so it reads negative with lights/ignition on (points closed) and engine not running. Connect battery negative to frame

Do you know the specs for the old 276-1661? Seems that there must be equivalents from some other source.

old, email me and I'll send you some diodes.

Yes there are equivalents but the places in my area cannot get them so I simply switch to using a ballast resister which work just fine

My e-mail is always open on Y-T. Not even sure I could send you an e-mail with this stupid windows 10 so maybe you can send me one then I can send you one back.
THANKS
