gb with 340 cid engine starter problem

just bought first minn Moline , a gb ( like the standards or wheatlands ). the tractor serial # indicates it is a 59 gb. the engine is a 340 cid by engine serial # as in the gtc. the engine runs fine, problem is that I am having starter problems armature and field have shorts. # I have is 1108067 7_19, end of starter drive gear seems to be hitting face of ring gear, shiny place all way around flywheel. question is, is this the correct starter for this combination of gb with340 engine. what is correct one and part # for same.

If there is a starter / alternater
rebuilding shop near you : take
tractor to them and they should be
able to get you set up. May only need
to change the drive : may be more
complex. If they have tractor: it
allows them to reduce guess work.

Books show a 1107605 for 340 LP motor in GTC. Gas GB 403 used 1108983 or 1113029. Number
you have goes nowhere in MM.

thanks for starter #s. still don't understand which starter I need to look for, having a gb tractor with 340(gtc engine). does anyone out there have this combination.

Your starter cross ref to several Case Power Units and some Combines. Very unlikely it is correct for you. Early GTC were 6 volt and used same starter as 1950-52 UTU, UTS with 283A4 engine - Delco no 1107977. Late GTC was 12v and used same starter as UB series 1107605. GB gas and LP were all 403 engine with 12v but used 1108983 in early GB and 1113029 in late GB. If you really have a 340 block, you probably would be best looking for either 1107977 (6v) or better 1107605 (12v). You can run the 6v starter at 12v but dont overheat it and you would probably be OK for light use of tractor.
