I've recently bought a MM R tractor that I intend to piddle around with, ride at tractor rides etc. The problem is that I will only run at partial choke.

I need help diagnosing and fixing the problem.

I've replaced the sedement bowl so I know there is free fuel flow to the carb. It has a Marvel Schebler TSX-231 carb. I've opened the carb and sprayed it out
with carb cleaner (there wasn't alot of gunk that I could see). I put it back together with a new gasket. I didn't replace any of the jets etc because I
coudlnt' find anywhere online with a rebuild kit for the TSX-231.

I've replaced the spark plugs (the old ones had alot of carbon buildup).

It will still only run smoothly at partial choke.

I didn't grow up doing any mechanical work so I'm learning as I go. Thanks in advance.

Take your carb apart again, one of the little ports is plugged. Each little hole should have an outlet. use carb cleaner and air. Using your finders, spin a small drill bit in the holes to get rust out. (or soak in a jug of carb cleaner.) Before you take the carb apart, does Gas does flow freely out of the bottom when you turn out the screw?

Trouble shoot then go to fixing things and or parts.
#1 check that you have a good blue/white spark at the center wire of the distributor cap and at the 4 plug wires that jump a 1/4 inch gap or more.
#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in under 3 minutes.
#3 when was the last time the air cleaner was serviced and the water/mud dumped out and fill with fresh oil.
#4 pull the air cleaner hose off the carb and hold you hand over the air intake of the carb and spin it over. You should both feel a good suction and get you hand covered with gas when you do so.
Post back if you need more help or where to go from doing those things.

That symptom is consistent with starving for gas. Don't take much buildup to be big problem. I use a torch tip cleaner in all ports. Use air pressure into all ports. Each port or orfice goes somewhere. When putting air in you should be able to see air coming out somewhere.

you have a plugged port in carburator. nothing to do with the ignition side. take carb off and disassemble it and soak it in actual carb cleaner. those can cleaners are useless. you have to actually soak the carb for a couple hrs. then wash it with warm water and blow each hole out with air. watch where the air is coming out of each port. you do not need to remove jets. you will get scared of the price of carb cleaner though... its about 60-70.00 per gallon. but its what you need.

you have a plugged jet/s I like a pan of kerosene mixed with gunk as cleaner and you'll need some torch tip cleaners or small pieces of wire you can stick in the jets to unplug them. If you access to an ultrasonic cleaner (jewelry cleaner) even better

mag. When I get back to the barn I'm gonna check the spark and air cleaner. If they're both good I'm going to take the carb off and bring it home to go through again.
