335 transmission

Did all 335's come with a 5 speed transmission. If not what was the other option. Thanks in advanace

The one i saw a picture of had a narrow slot for the shifter that ran from left to right. Didn't look like there was any room for gear mixing. I have ridden a few MM and don't remember the shifter looking like that.

The shifter on my 335 has a slot from left to right. The shift lever pivots in the slot, its hard to see in there but there is a yoke on the end of the shift lever that pushes/pulls the shift rod going into the housing forward/backward. There is also supposed to be a spring that holds the shifter off the rear side of the slot, but many are broken or missing. The rod going into the housing can select from 4 different rails inside the case, if I can remember correctly.

So to shift you swing the shift lever left/right to select the gear, then push forward, or pull back to engage the correct rail and fork in the transmission.

As far as I know, all 335s had 5 gears. I would suspect that some did not have the T/A to split the speeds. but then with MM, if the customer wanted fewer gears, they would probably accomodate him.
