I was removing the cap off of my pro on my 1950 8n and hydraulic fluid came pouring out. Is this normal, or bad? I guess I'm changing the oil. Any help appreciated.

The PTO seal should keep the oil inside the rear end case, but some oil leakage is common with a working tractor. Your judgement as to how much leakage you can live with. One old timer I knew claimed that "if it ain't leaking 5 gallons per day, it ain't worth fixin." Now, that is way WAY beyond my tolerance level, but to each his own.

The PTO seal is not hard to replace, but does require the removal of the PTO shaft and bearing to get to it. If you have the PTO cap in place, then you probably aren't using the PTO very often, and can get by with just leaving things alone until they get a lot worse. Another old timer frequently was quoted as saying "if it ain't leaking oil, it's cuz it ran out" thus no need for a dip stick.

sounds like a PTO seal leak its an easy fix, four bolts and pull it out, R&R seal, clean flange and surface replace gasket and install. If its a minute leak like a wee bit in the cap once a month or so I wouldn't sweat it until the next scheduled fluid change, if its a steady leak do it now..... just my $.02 ...............

I will agree with this. I would add though that the "correct" way to
do it would be to drain the nearly 5 gallons of fluid and replace it.
About $35 at TSC for Traveler Premium UTF in the 5 gallon pail.
Watch out for mission creep. While I have the oil out, should I
clean all the sludge out of the bottom? Obvious answer is yes.
