Float charger

Bruce in VA - I have seen several post of yours referencing a float charger. I have searched several places and can only find a 12 volt. Do you have any suggestions where to look for a 6 volt float charger? Thanks

Schumacher, Battery tender, and Atec make one. I have a schumaker. Got it at autozone or some similar auto store like that.

(quoted from post at 12:06:23 09/19/17) I have a Black & Decker one. It seems to work well and was under $20. Link

I got two of the black and decker and like them, but I had to replace the clamps on both of them.

Turns out I have a Schumaker model 600 automatic charger. Good for 6 or 12 volts with automatic shut off. Is this the same as a float charger? If not, what is the difference? Thanks

I use Battery Tenders; Walmart carries them. They make 6v & 12v models. I've got 4 12v models and 5 6v models.

10 year warranty as well.

As a general rule a float charger will not charge a dead or real low battery but will maintain a charged battery. an automatic charger will charge a low or mostly dead battery and "should" shut off when the battery is charged. IMHO

I have several 12V Battery Tenders at work and they will keep a battery from going dead but they
are still sluggish to turn over. Purchased a 12V BatterMinder for myself at home and am very
impressed! My Case used to turn over ok but nothing to write home about, now after it's been hooked
up to the BatteryMinder it whips over so much faster! After those results I bought a 6V
BatteryMinder and it works just as well. They are a bit pricey compared to the Battery Tender but
they will revive most old batteries and can be swapped around between equipment easily. Cheaper
than buying a new battery every year or two.

Every single B&D charger broke its clamps, They were junk but B&D went on using them anyhow. I wrote them to complain hoping maybe they'd send new ones
but no response at all. Every bit as bad as the "Eventoast" toaster-oven they make which chars an exact image of the heating element on each piece of toast. I
do not buy B&D anymore.

The chargers also won't charge a dead battery. They claim this is an intentional safety feature to prevent the battery from exploding, but it just means you need
two chargers, one to get it started and one to finish the charge with.
