Marvel-Schebler Carburetor settings

Can anyone tell me the various screw settings for a Original Marvel-Schebler Carburetor design replaces TSX33, TSX341B, TSX431C., PN: 8N9510C?

Doug.......here's the way I set the M/S carbie, (wheather 9N,2N,8N) Set the down-pointing mainjet to 2-turns and LEAVITT!!! Adjust the side-pointing idlemix fer FASTEST idle NOT SMOOTHEST idle. Understand the difference??? Usually will be about 1/8-1/4 turn. Remember the idlemix is BASS-ACKWARDS, out fer lean, IN fer ENRICH.......HTH, Dell, yer carbie-meister

P.S......iff'n ya don't haff a tachometer, makka WAG (Wild A$$ Guess) ...or... iff'n yer spincterly challeged, buy an el-cheapo from a HOT-ROD shop. They'll be 12-volts but will run onna 9-volt battery. Simple, eh?

Main screw (big one) 2 turns out. Idle screw 1 turn out. These are initial settings. Final settings depend on the mechanical
condition of the tractor. After warming up adjust the idle speed to the lowest possible, then turn idle screw in or out to
obtain the fastest rpm. Readjust idle stop setting to get the lowest speed and repeat. I usually do this two or three times.
At wide open throttle adjust main screw in until rpms drop and then back out slightly until speed picks back up.

What model tractor are you working on? 9N, 2N, or 8N? The M/S TSX-33 carb was first used on the 9N thru the early 8N, then changed to the TSX-241 style, almost the same thing with a few modifications. You do know that the Borg-Warner Corporation was the parent company of the Marvel-Schebler Carb Company, right? Although B-W is still in business, M/S is not but aftermarket companies repop, or try to, their original designs. Just because you see a fleabay ad for a FORD 8N9510C carb doesn't mean it is a genuine M/S carb, especially if new. Unless it says it a used M/S Carb, chances are it is just an aftermarket brand and there are several out there. Me? I avoid any and all aftermarkets. I buy and rebuild original M/S carbs only. All the wear parts are available in kits. I don't know where you get those other part numbers from but they don't show up in my M/S - Ford Tractor crossover parts book which goes up to the Hundred Series. Often fleabay sellers have no clue what parts they have and simply insert a ton of keywords so when a fella does a search, it pops up. If you bought one of those fleabay items an didn't get a installation sheet with it, well just more proof not buy cheap junk. There is a ton of info in the archives on setting and adjusting the N carbs. get out your I&T F-04 manual and/or your Operator's Manual and they will also detail carb parts and settings. Don't have either of those? I suggest you invest in them. The original Ford manuals say carb initial setting specs are: Idle Air Mix Screw (side pointing) set 1-1/2 turns out; Main Jet Mix Screw 1-1/2 Turns Out; and Throttle/Speed Screw is initially set at rebuild so the throttle plate just starts to open. Later specs say to set Main and Idle Air at 2 turns and go from there. You will tweak it once mounted and engine hot and up to temp. You just don't make those settings and mount it and expect to go plow the back forty. Plus, you will need to do this 3 or 4 times with engine cooling down in between tests.

ALL M/S Carb Settings are basically the same. Your OEM Manuals have chapters that outline settings. The engine must be warmed up first. Adjustments are made with short, 1/8" turns of the screws at at a time then WAIT til the engine speed catches up.
