Craigslist - is that a cable operated Sherman?

Not a bad deal either way I guess.
Looks to have correct 16 inch rims, not car rims.
Normal disclaimers, not mine, not affiliated.

Yup, more than likely a step up but there's always a possibility
someone will get really lucky and it will be a step down. Nice
price. I always thought the 16's like that were aftermarket. My
friend's Dad bought a new 2n in 1946. He said the dealer
delivered it with 16" tires. It also had a loader on it. Still
has the same tires on it today although the loader is gone.

It still has the correct 2N-10000 generator with tensioning arm attached too. Most 9N and 2Ns with Shermans had the step-ups as there was no 4th gear and farmers wanted that higher road gear range.

I got exited when I saw the Belmont in parentheses in the title. I live near Belmont, but it's in Wisconsin not Michigan. Just as well though, my wife says I have enough tractors.

I should hook up the trailer and go get that puppy. Here in NH they sell for $2500 to $4500. At least thats what they are advertised at on CL. Same thing right?

if you look closely, the cable IS visible, running down from the "firewall" next to the oil bath air filter and to the transmission case.

as to prices in NH, the c-list ads might be asking $3500 to $5000, but not many sell for that, or they remain for sale for a long, long time. there are several in the $4000 plus range that have been advertised for years, and many in the $2500 range for nearly as long.

i have attached a photo from my dad's '46, with the step-up, showing the cable shift knob on the dash.

"i'll bet it will follow you home "

Not this time Dave. Too close to Christmas, plus I already have
my 8N in the shop for an engine rebuild over the winter. But I
can't get too far into that one until I finish this 3000 and get it
out of here so Joan can park in here. There's always something! ;)

My '45 2N has the cable step-up Sherman. The previous owner always kept it inside and I keep the cable
lubricated and the tractor inside. Hopefully that one is not rusted being it is out in the weather.
