2N Coolant and the thermostat

After having the radiator cleaned and repaired, I discovered that there was no thermostat.
I now have a 'new and improved' thermostat model #A-B2NN8575A. I'm fairly sure that I install it with the copper capsule (that has the stamp for 180 on it and the spring around the capsule) towards the engine. Is is this correct?
Also, I have a couple of gallons of DEXCOOL on the shelf. Is there a good reason that I should not use DEXCOOL?

As always thanks for your collective help
Stan

If there is any chance any of the green stuff might still be in the block I would not use dex-cool. They do not mix and can cause problems if mixed.

I believe pointy end toward radiator. Typically pretty tight fit so will need to use some lube, The 2N will love the Dexcool.

I flushed the block real well with fresh water, so that's not a problem.
Now I shall put it back together and go cut some grass
Thanks for your replies

HAHAHAHA -'new and improved' -an old marketing term meaning nothing, new and improved how? It's like products that say 'now 30% more' yet the container is still the same size. Anyway, the N-Series thermostat is inserted in the UPPER RADIATOR hose with the pointed end towards the radiator. The original hose came with s steel band that kept the thermostat inside the hose nearest the water pump so it didn't move up to the radiator end. It just functions best when nearer the water pump end. Since they don't make nor sell the bands anymore, many fellas just use a plastic wire tie or hose clamp to keep the thermostat in place -see picture. If you have the pointy end (copper capsule) towards the engine it is installed backwards.

Your ? is........:"I'm fairly sure that I install it with the copper capsule (that has the stamp for 180 on it and the spring around the capsule) towards the engine. Is is this correct?"

Short answer to that, is......YES!!!!

Some people don't read the whole ?, so don't get confused by 'Half/Page answers'.!!!!

I put it all together this morning and it runs well. I decided that the green stuff is the best way to go for a couple of reasons. I may not live forever, and if anyone else needs to add antifreeze, they would surly expect that the original green stuff is the right stuff. Also the slim chance that there was some green stuff in the block made me a scared to mix with DEX.
I put the thermostat in the upper rad hose with the copper capsule surrounded by the shiny spring nearest the engine block. The thermostat was a [b:346cee96a2]a&i products A-B2NN8575A [/b:346cee96a2]which looks a little different than the product without the prefix A[u:346cee96a2][/u:346cee96a2].

Now onto the next repair project.
