Howard Transmission Tractor

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post here. I've owned an 8n for about 3 years now and had visions of restoring it over time. Unfortunately we've made the decision to move to a smaller home where I really don't have the need or space for the tractor.

The tractor is a 1952 8n with a bucket up front and a blade in back. The tractor is pretty solid and typically starts easily even after sitting awhile. It has mainly been be used for maintaining a gravel road over the years. I do have a Howard Rotovator implement with adapter. I have not had an opportunity to use the rototiller yet but I believe it to be operational with a good cleaning.

The tractor has both the Sherman and Howard auxiliary transmissions that appear to be fully operational. I've cycled through all the different combinations without any issues.

Does anyone have a recommendation on what I should list the tractor at? I realize there are many factors that affect price but I am mainly curious as to what kind of value the auxiliary transmissions (mainly the Howard) might add to a typical tractor in aged but operational condition.

We are in the Northern California area (true north). Thanks for any input you might have and I've always enjoyed reviewing the surplus of information on this site.

The Howard may add another $500 to the sale. Worth more if you
pull it and sell it maybe $800/$1000 depending on condition.
Rotivator a couple/few hundred if you are lucky since you can't
get parts anymore and they are a pain to hook up.
If the Sherman is step down maybe an extra $400, more if you
pull it. $500/700.
If step up maybe $100/150 extra. Pulling them will only get you
$200/350.

Kirk,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. The Sherman is actually a step-up step-down which I've found to be very useful. I'll just keep all intact and let go how it is. I would love to keep it and restore it but I only have so much time in the day.

Thanks again,

Sean

A Sherman combo should add about $400 to the sale.$500/$700 if
pulled.
The problem is that these tractors aren't going for much these
days. A pretty 8n will bring a few more dollars but not much.
Even with all the equipment they don't seem to bring that much
at least in my location. Maybe you will do better in yours.
Should you decide to split it and sell separately you might come
out way a head. It's a pretty easy split to remove the whole
tranny with the Sherman and Howard and replace with standard
trans for a couple/few hundred bucks and offer the whole thing
as a bolt and go.
If you don't have the time or don't want to get involved in it
than you might have to take less. I slit a 2n with Howard a
couple of months ago. Is on YouTube under Kirk-NJ, if it will
help. Good luck with your sale

What did you ever decide to do with your tractor? I am actively searching for parts for TO30 to repair my Howard Auxiliary transmission. One of the gears on my gear set is badly worn and needs replacing. If you ever decide for some reason to part out your tractor, please let me know.
