Pto extension

Does anyone know if they make a 1 1/8” x 1 1/8” pto extension? I can find the 1 1/8” x 1 3/8” extension but that’s not what I need. Does anyone know if they make this extension and where I can get it? Thanks

Surely there must be some out there, but none I'm familiar qith.

You could use a 1-3/8" female X 1-1/8" male extender and bush the 1-3/8" end down to 1-1/8" to fit your PTO shaft.

I went to the barn to check my inventory. I have 7 ORCs 1-1/8 to 1-3/8, 4 extensions 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 and
1 extension 1-3/8 to 1-1/8 and one sleeve/bushing 1-1/8 to 1-3/8.
I think Bob has your solution: Use a 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 bushing to adapt a 1-3/8 to 1-1/8 extension.
Hopefully, you are not going to put real heavy loads or the ocassional shock of a brush hog. I have
broken a couple of the sleeves because of some wear in the splines over time. JMHO

Another option would be to buy a 1-1/8" 6-splined sleeve and a 10" length of 1-1/8" 6-spline shafting (cut to the length you need) and weld them together to make your own extension.

Looking in the Baum Hydraulics catalog, those two items would be well over $100.00 from them.

TSC has 1 1/8 x 1 3/8 x 6 adapter. There was an adapter that bolted where check chains fasten that's about a foot or so long. Was used with drawbar and stabilizer arms.

I understand what you want, but it might be better if we knew what it was you are trying to do. Is your mower PTO drive shaft too short? If so, I'd get the right length on that instead of trying to extend the tractor PTO shaft out more. Why? Torque involved. Experiment: Take a 3' length of rope, cordage, or shoelace and tie a nut or bolt on one end. Stand with the loose end in one hand and start swinging it around your head horizontally in a circle. Not easy as it wants to sway up and down as it goes around. Now, grasp the rope much closer to the bolt end, say about 12" or so and repeat the swirling action; can even swing it vertically too. Notice how much more controlled the motion is with a shorter length? I can't answer your question, but I'm assuming, and I hate to assume, that you are looking for a 1-1/8 female end to a 1-1/8 male end adaptor. You don't say how long you want it. I have never seen one but they may exist. Keep in mind too that the more extra parts in the equation, the more to go wrong.

Here is why I need this. The existing pto shaft is to short to allow a new overrun clutch to slide on and allow the pin to secure it to the existing pto shaft. It’s about 1/2” to short to line up. The overrun clutch female end is 1 1/8” so that’s why I’m trying to extend the existing pto a little bit. My new plan now since they don’t make a simple 1 1/8” extension is to get the 1 1/8” x 1 3/8 extension and get another overrun clutch that is 1 3/8” female and male end. I will be then hooking up a finish mower once I do that. Sorry for not posting the whole issue initially. Thanks for all the ideas and input.

update... bought an extension and it was unable to slide far enough back on the pto to get the roll pin in. Just caved and ordered a new 1 3/8” pto shaft to upgrade it from the old style. Any recommendations for when I go to change this once it arrives? Some say park it on a incline so the fluid rolls forward so I don’t have to drain it before changing shafts. Is this ok to do and has anyone done this? Also should I have the pto lever engaged or disengaged when changing shafts? Thanks guys and gals

yes, i did the incline thing. worked fine, but people warn against too steep an incline. how steep is too steep? no idea, but steeper than my driveway, i guess :)

i think u want it disengaged. don't quote me on that tho.
