Value for a 9N

There is a 9n for sale near me, all painted up and pretty. My normal bush hogging tractor, ih404, not starting now, is a 9n a capable alternative until my 404 is back running. I have a 5 foot bush hog and some heavy work to do. What's a fair price for a 9N? I'll have to squeak the cash so I need to know from someone with experience in the 9N, thanks.

$2000 tops if runs good, lift works, and good tires.
In average fair condition, tires worn, weather cracked,
anywhere from $1200-1500.
I?m basing these figures on what they sell for in my area,
South Alabama

I agree on the prices posted by Grayrider, I paid 1700 for my 2N a year ago and it came with a brush hog and blade. 3 out of 4 tires were new. I live in Idaho, prices seem up just over 2k at the moment but supply seems low at the moment.

As for heavy mowing, that depends on the engine being in top tuned condition and mower setup correctly. These old Ns aren’t powerhouses but they absolutely get the job done. I had a lot of trouble mowing when I first bought mine , it was out of tune and the brush hog was set too low it was cutting grass about one inch!!! So adjusting the height and replacing and tuning carb, cleaning the plugs I’m able to mow my field without stopping in first gear with full throttle and a good portion uphill. I can do full passes too, before I had to do half passes in order not to have it hog down and die. The only thing I haven’t done yet is sharpen the blades they appear to never have been sharpened in their life, and it’s a very old mower! once I do that I expect I can mow it all in second gear, even uphill.

If you are used to that IH 404 I'd wager you will not like heavy brush hogging with a 9N regardless of price. In my neighborhood $1000-$1500. I would think a loaner/rental would be a better and cheaper idea.

TOH

Agreed TOH. An N would be about
800 lbs lighter, have about 10 less
horsepower and no live hydraulics which the
404 would have.
I'm not familiar with the 404 but looking at
tractordata.com would think it's comparable
to one of the Ford 2000s.
Quite a bit more tractor than an N.

In my area $800-900 would be tops if new tires and look like new. No one wants it's.
Like other's said no live power less power. Like some same here there OK to go gather
the eggs. Their just outdated.

A running 9 n brings anywhere from 5-950.00 around here. I've hauled hundreds of them to the scrap yard that
were given to me.
