OT Bull Dozer Accident

I heard on the news this morning that at a wildfire in Calif. a bull dozer operator was killed when his machine flipped over. No other info, just that it flipped over.

I'm sorry to hear that but I guess he just got a little too cocky as to what his machine could do and maybe took it where it shouldn't have gone.

(quoted from post at 13:23:52 07/16/18) I dont know what happened, but I doubt very much that was the case.

I don't think "flipped" his dozer was the correct word but that's what the news said. He had to be taking a chance to roll over a dozer. How else does one roll a dozer without taking it where it shouldn't go, like cutting a firebreak on a hill that's too steep? Or maybe he was going vertical and tried to make a turn around and rolled it over sideways. Either way, I feel for his family. Our fire fighters here in California are among the best and it's sad when we lose one.

If you go on youtube and watch big machinery accidents, it's hard to believe what some people do with them.

Perhaps you could get some FACTS before you spread hyperbole.... Here you go again... sheesh...

Hyperbole (extravegant exaggeration) ? They didn't have any facts on it so I was merely guessing on what might have caused a dozer to roll over. Give me a break, I didn't call the guy an idiot.

Our wild fires are always in the mountainous areas. So the guy must have been working on a hillside. How else would a dozer roll over? Below is all they said about it.

"The firefighter, identified as California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection heavy equipment operator Braden Varney, 36, of Mariposa, died when his bulldozer rolled over as he built a firebreak to help stop the blaze, a Cal Fire spokesman said. He was alone on the bulldozer."

This was also said in the article.

"July 15--A wildfire burning in [color=red:3324c51498][b:3324c51498]steep and rugged terrain[/b:3324c51498][/color:3324c51498] west of Yosemite has killed one firefighter and prompted the closure of a major route into the park on Saturday, officials said."

That's what made me guess what happened. He was a young guy married with two kids. What a shame.

*You* added the word "COCKY"..... *You* didn't need to say Anything... the family is grieving and you are going on like the MSM...

OK, maybe I should have said over confident. Since you're having such a hard time with me....why don't you tell me what makes a dozer roll over?

Tell me who's fault do you think it was that the dozer rolled over? Right now, I don't know, I'm just guessing.

Was it mechanical defect? Was it a dirt slide? Stuff like that can happen when the hills are soaked after big storms but these hillsides were dry. So what do you do to get a big heavy dozer to roll over? How would you do it if you intentionally wanted it to roll over. I'm definitely not saying he wanted it to roll, I'm asking you how something like that can happen.

I said a little prayer for the guys family. I said what a shame it was. I didn't hear you say anything at all. You seem to be more concerned with bad mouthing me. Why don't you take it easy and back off? It's a bad thing that happened. You shouldn't be using it just to give me a hard time.

We here in California value our fire fighters. I've had my place saved from fire by the CDF foscheck bombers. There is a little airport in Hemet that services them when there is a nearby fire. They've saved many homes over the years. Please don't make a personal vendetta out of this post.

Did you ever think sometimes it's just better to say nothing at all. I have read many posts lately and I see one thing in common concerning those that have caused problems. You are always in each one of those posts.

Ok, I'll bow out. You have the forum all to yourself.

There are some people who will never try new things for fear of ridicule or failure. Then there are people who will try new things in an attempt to learn new things and to gain more experience.
As far as this accident, the ground may have collapse under the machine, causing it to roll. Or maybe he was crossing a downed tree and the tree rolled under the machine. All unknown variables and yet, here you are, MR HOLYIER THAN THOU.
So now my question is, who are you to be critical of others?
