SEAT TIME - 4th Cutting

We're in the middle of our usual September "soft" weather - a period of 10-14 days of clear sky, 80°, iight wind, no rain weather that heralds the start of Autumn.

For once, I timed my hay cuttings so I laid down the 4th cut right at the start of this period. This was on a Monday, and yesterday (Friday), it was ready to rake:

And by late this afternoon, it was ready to bale:

I don't know what everybody else's problem is, but my 6 volt front mount 8N keeps starting right up every time I go to use it - it's still one of the handiest tools I have on the farm! :p 8)

Beautiful pictures as always Ed!
I converted my 8N back to 6V when I refurbished it this year.
So far, I've had no problems with it either. Starting them has
never been my issue. It has always been finding a voltage
regulator that worked reliably so they would charge the battery.
I've had brand new ones work for one hour and quit.

BWD R-190 from Oreilly Auto Parts. Lifetime guarantee. A Circuit replacement for 8N-10505C used on late 8N tractors. Mine has been trouble free for about eight years - Now that I've said that, it probably won't charge the next time I start it

Just sayin'!!!!!!
Gary

Thanks Bill, that's what I put on it this time. About double the cost
of some others, but if it lasts it will be worth it for saving the aggravation!

I went through that same circus when I rebuilt mine ten years ago. Haven't had to touch it since, tho.

Boy does that bring back memories! In the late '50's we custom baled for many neighbors. Being one of seven boys, we would hire out to do any or all steps in baling: mowing, conditioning, raking, baling, hauling & stacking. When our old rake wore out the local Ford dealer made my Dad a deal on a prototype Vicon wheel rake just like the rake in your pic! When raking w/our 9N w/overdrive at whatever speed I could stay on the tractor farmers would drive by, slam on the brakes, turn around & drive by slowly, turn around again & would be leaning on a fence post the next round!

Great pics and looks like fun, but I’m with my dad on this one: I don’t want anything to do with bales that are small enough to be moved by hand...
