You can light it and it does fine till it reaches its preset ten9-----main burner turns off
then click is heard abd tge pilot goes out every time...had to have a new transformer put
on itn furing tyhr summer at that time he was working on a/c--I bet the same transformer
controls control boltage for the s/c snd the heat and he gas somrthjng wired wrong...Any
thoughts>>> Thanks0.

Good point-I think you are right...just lit it again and made it run several minutes then made the burner go off-and the pilot stayed on this time Had a gas leak outside a few months ago so some pipe had to be replaced and of course the gas co installed a new meter(will show higher useage I bet) anyway hope it just had some air in the line--Thought I had run it enough last night to take care of that but hopefully that is what it was..pilot don't look as big as I remember it looking before but if it works it works--Thanks again..

You say light pilot. I take that to mean it has a thermocouple?

If I would start there, also make sure you have a strong pilot flame that doesn't get sucked out when the main burner goes out.

Thought it was ok but its not--I lit it and when the main burner went out(at set temp) the
pilot stayed on ---checked it several times and it was still on---15 or so minutes later
got a little ciil in the house-I heard it click but it did not come on--looked and pilot is
out--pilot don't look as strong as I remember it should be---here is how this all started--
removed the cover last night to light pilot for first time this Fall--cover bumped
something and sparks flew--did not shock me but did kick the control voltage 120
breaker..found the breaker tripped-reset it and now pilot goes out..does that give u any
clues--what do I do about the weak looking pilot other tran blow it out with compressed
air?? Thanks

I work with natural gas utility company, 37 years to date, here are some things to try:

1. Change the thermocouple out
2. Make sure the thermocouple tip contacts the pilot head flame
3. Remove the pilot tubing and clean the orifice in the pilot head
4. If copper is ran to your control valve then remove it and clean all of the scale/residue in the copper tubing.

You mentioned that gas company had repaired leak, do you have other gas appliances that you have been using up until now, if furnace only then air could be the culprit and will need to be bled some more if you haven't already been using for cooking or water heating...

Grayrider-thanks for all the good info..Earlier this afternoon I blew the pilot head out
the best I could with a small compressor-so far so good--will copy and keep your info and
hope I never need it--Thanks again.

Over time I have seen the pilot orifice stop up and to thoroughly clean it you will need to remove pilot tubing to clean it ...holler back if you still have problems

when i lived in a mobile home, i had a problem getting the furnace going every fall. it apparently was a result of air in the lines. in order to purge the air thru the pilot itself, you'd have to hold that control knob down for 3 days ;)

i came up with a workaround. i'd take my propane torch and heat the thermocouple up till it was glowing, and then switch on the main burner. since the thermocouple was glowing hot, it didn't care if there actually were a flame on it. a tiny pocket or air will kill the pilot flame, but the main burner doesn't even notice it. by the time the main burner was ready to cycle back off, the line would be purged to the point that the pilot stayed lit on its own.
