oliver 70 Pulling

I have heard that you can put Oliver 77 sleeves in an Oliver 70
motor with some work. Has anyone done this before? If so how
much work was it? Trying to get some extra HP for tractor pulling.
Tractor pulls good (max 10,100 lb. in stone boat) but needs a little
more power.

Yes oil did it 15 years ago you have to turn the sleeves down and bore the block you should do something to the head or it won't give you as much power as you want I got about 65 hp out of my tractor

Well if you are looking for a "little" more power shave the head an 1/8" Unless you got the money for turning sleeves and boring the block then go for it. When you shave the head that much you will have to drill new holes for that tin cover on the side of your head, careful not to drill into a water jacket. You will also have to ream out one of the bolt holes on your water pump. (at least on my 3 gear engine) All much cheaper than boring the block and gives you a ton of compression.

There's some Case 33/8" pistons that'll fit but if you stroke that will help a lot more. Also cost a lot more too.

Another thing is to look at the ports on the head and manifold and get them cleaned up (polished) so the ports match to get better flow. Then while you have the head off work on the combustion chambers as well and do a little bowl work. Once you get better air flow you should be able to increase the fuel flow and gain some power. This is all low dollar stuff. A stroker crank would be nice.

Ok,I got tell a story about my 39 70 that I pulled with.A friend told they were having a JD show in midland ,Mi. yrs ago & I should bring my 70 up & show them what it can do.They had a pull & said I could pull but exhibition only since my tires were 13.6 ,it rained that day & they started w/the heavyweights & went down. They still made me pay $5.00 pr pull.I went out & by then he track dried out & I put it in 2nd,took off & made a full pull. The crowd was clapping & etc. Then the club president come over & said look take it alittle easier next time I said ok.So in the 3500 I put it in 3rd ,another full pull dust flying it felt great.Best $10.00 I ever spent..
Good Luck w/yours!
