Looking at a White 2-135 that has a broken crank

So it has a Hercules with a busted crank. I'm fairly confident now I can buy a mil surplus continental/white/herc multifuel complete engine to swap in fine but the owner says he striped the engine down with the broken crank and that appears to be the only issue with no damage to any bearings. I'm assuming there is a damper on these motors that went bad leading to crank failure?

I found a mil surplus crank for 400$ but you can get multifuels between 1000 and 2000 pretty reliably it seems. Might be a good way to get rid of some waste oil if I installed it in the 135.

The multi-fuels have better cranks. Do the multi-fuels still have a carburetor. I did a class one time for rebuilding the heads on multi-fuel engines for a certain state's National Guard. They have some different specifications. Check the main bearing where the crank broke. It may have a crack in it. Fact we just had a Deere in with a broken crank and it had a cracked main bearing cap too.

Military crank is heavier and will fit fine. Neighbor's 2-155 broke awhile back, that's how his got fixed. Old crank broke at the #4 webb, had a dull rumble below 1500 rpm but was quiet above that speed. Had no block or bearing damage on teardown getting the old crank out.

It is a no brainer if you have access to a crate or low hour military 478. I have changed a few out. Use the injectors and pump, oil pump, old oil pan and front cover, oil filter housings. I almost think I changed the cam(can not remember for sure). The military engine has an extra piston ring and will kick out a few more hp,
