1755 Static Timing

I'm replacing the injection pump on my 1755, and the manual says to bring the #1 cylinder to TDC using the crankshaft timing marks through the timing inspection window. Not to sound stupid, but I can't find the timing window
Thanks
Pete

Should have mentioned, align the internal pump marks first, as the pump turns 1/2 engine speed. Just setting the flywheel won't guarantee the pump marks are aligned, flywheel may still need one more turn IF the pump marks are not in the window..

(quoted from post at 07:03:54 11/19/17) I think I found it - any tricks to turning the engine over?
Thanks
I think I have heard mention of using along extension and socket through the grill.

Pete, I use a ratchet and short extension with a 1 1/8 socket inside of the crank pulley. May have to add a short piece of pipe on the handle for leverage. I think on the right side of the tractor and pull up. Have a flash light so you can see in the hole when the mark on the flywheel shows up. I think your sister dropped off a pie the other day,boy that was good! I now weigh more than I ever have.lol

IF you are alone work from the left side and watch the timing marks on the injection pump. Stop when the 2 marks line up. At this stage in their life a lot of those timing tapes are hard to read, but the TDC mark should still be in the window on the right side. The timing window cover is held on by the only 5/16 inch cap screw on that side.

Well, I screwed up and pulled the pump without timing it, before reading Dieseltech's second post. I'm guessing I'll have to pull the valve cover and check that the valves are closed at TDC to be sure it's not 180 out. If I only had a brain...
Thanks again for the help guys
Pete

Did you leave the shaft in the engine and pull the pump only? If so just align the shaft end dot with the rotor dot inside the pump when going back on, then timing can be set later. If the shaft has been removed then pull the valve cover, turn engine to TDC and check CYLINDER #6 rockers. What you want is exhaust almost closed, and intake just starting to open. Then you will KNOW for sure you are on #1 compression as 1 and 6 are at TDC together. CAM determines which one fires though..

You can pull #1 injector and have someone turn the engine over with a socket and you hold your finger over the injector hole. When you feel compression, start looking for TDC mark on the flywheel. Questions?
