Some 500 progress

I posted this on Tractor Tales, but I didn't know how many of you went up there. The right fender was good on the 500 Orchard but the left one was beat up pretty bad. The skirt was missing, there was about half a dozen places where the skirt had been welded back on at one time and those spots were all broken out. It had some cracks in it. I got everything cut out square, welded new pieces in and made a new skirt. She's coming along. I had to make a new tool box cover. Somebody had taken a torch to both ends of that, but I didn't think to take before and after pictures of that.

Yes. I had to rebuild that whole box. I'll have to get new lids for it. The whole thing was bad,but not as far gone as the one on the gasser was. I had one built for that one.

I went to a small parts yard this morning and got an original style seat off a Massey to replace that gawd awful aftermarket seat. Luckily the original mounting brackets were welded to it. I cut them off and welded them to the Massey seat. No real big project to get it done, but it sure makes it look a whale of a lot better. I got a shot of the toolbox cover that I made that goes under the seat too. One of these days I'll hit the tipping point where everything gets easier.

Thanks for those pictures! I have to rebuild that whole area on mine as the previous owner cut it all up and welded in some mounts for some kind of an Oliver seat with rubber donut suspension.

Neighbor has an old Kubota seat that has a shape similar to the original seat. I'll probably use that and have to make the brackets. Your pics will make that much easier. Then I'll just have to find some cushions that are pretty close to the originals.

I made cushions for my gasser, probably will for this one too until I can get the right ones somewhere. It's easy to find them in gray for a Massey, but the black ones have to be ordered. I just cut out some plywood, got some nuts that have tabs on them to draw in to the wood, cut out some foam from an old couch cushion and stapled some black vinyl over the whole thing. Not perfect, but good enough for now.

I'm gonna try to have it done for McBride and Blanchard. They're featuring foreign made tractors over to Oakley this year,so it'd be nice to get both of them over there. I plan to put it back together and have it in Sheridan,Memorial Weekend too,no matter how rough it looks.

The sheet metal was all gone, but I think it was a 135. Somebody had painted it to look like a Ford. There was another one sitting there that I think was a model 65 that had a seat like that.

I've never been to the McBride, or Sheridan show. Maybe I can make it this year?

Hope so. We'll be in front of the VFW on County Farm the Saturday of Memorial weekend. There's a new club that I've joined here in Montcalm County. The show is late July. Check the website oldirontractor.com Last year was the second annual show and we had 127 tractors there already.
