The tach and hour meter quit working on the 1550 late last year. Its been a cold long winter and finally warmed up to 55 degrees yesterday so I took a look at it. The cable was connected at both ends. I removed the connecting nut at the distributer and started the tractor. The cable did not rotate nor did the shaft in the little gearbox below the distributor. I asked around and was told there is a small brass drive gear in the little gearbox that is likely stripped. I was told that this little gear is ~$200 from AGCO. That seems ridiculously high to me. Does anyone know where to get this more cheaply? Also, is it possible to have an electronic tach and hourmeter to replace the cable drive one? Thanks.

Follow up to Holley distributor tach drive problem.
We found the gear was not brass as I was initally told. It is a nylon gear with an interference fit to the tach cable drive shaft. I located a used distributor that had a good tach drive shaft and gear. It cost $60.00.
We hooked the tach cable at the distributor up to a drill to make sure the tach was not bound up and then lubed the cable and hooked everything up after checking the tach. Tach is working again.
