Splitting tractor

Any of you ever split a big 4 digit Oliver without pulling the motor, by pulling the tub away from the trans-rear end housing?

Yes! We even had a farmer make up a splitting stand for us. The key is finding a 3/4 inch drive 12 point impac socket that will take the 300 pound feet of torque!. The smallest I ever split was some 880 tractors to install the late style lube pump. The largest was a 1950T.

I have looked this job over a couple of times, but never tried it. Always pulled the engine. It should't be too hard to build a support stand for these rigs though. It just might be the easy way to access the input shaft and transmission front side.

Snap-On tools has the HD 12 point socket and u-joint readily available if needed.
