just wonder if hytran oil can be used in this tractor hydraulics ? dont see why not. book says type 55 hyd. oil. my other tractors are IH so like to keep oil the same.
and for the over under shift it says to use type A oil. can hytran be used in it?

Yes you can, with a couple caveats. The pump is gravity fed, pulling the oil through the filter. Back in the day we had a few customers ruin their pump by cavitating it because they were starving for oil after switching to UTF. What I did on my 2-150 and 4-175 (same system) was to replace the paper filter with a fine mesh screen right from Gressen the manufacturer of the filter system. The screen does not filter as fine a micron as the paper filter, but is within (barely) the micron rating for the PVB/PVE pumps. The Gressen part number for the screen is K25001. If you can't find one locally, the call Amdynic Fluid Power in New Baltimore MI which is who I deal with. If you switch to the screen you need to be extra cleanly when coupling hoses, filling, checking level, etc.

We switched my 1955 and 4-150 over to the screen filter and then added a spin on filter housing to the oil cooler circuit. On the 55 it's up under the hood in the hole between the turbo and radiator, and on the 150 it's on the front pivot frame behind the steps. Makes servicing the hyd system way more convenient and makes more sense than the way they did it from the factory. Greatly extends the service life of the main pump since it doesn't have to suck oil through the filter and the oil cooler circuit is a 5 gpm constant flow so it theoretically filters the entire reservoir once a minute.

FYI Oliver kid has a good idea with the return circuit filter. No piston pump "sucks" so you need to eliminate a vacuum on the inlet side and no piston pump manufacture specifies a filter courser than 10 micron to protect the pump

i relize that , as its usually 7 micron filters for piston pumps. this white is new to me and want to know if hytran oil is ok for over/under. or is there a specific oil just for it? book just says type A oil.

HyTran in the over under yes. They said automatic transmission fluid when they first came out,but they were having issues with bearings going out in the higher horsepower tractors,so they recommended HyTran.

I didn't feel physics lecture about how lower pressure in the inlet side allows atmospheric pressure to "push" the oil through the filter. Just trying to keep him from replacing a $1000 hydraulic pump because the oil couldn't flow through the filter fast enough. Saw enough units come through the shop needing a pump, and pulling the filter housing and seeing the paper filter plugged with waxy compounds from cheap charlie UTF.

There were new clutch pack materials released that allowed the use of UTF, if your over under has ever been overhauled it will have the new plates. The problem was with the adhesive, not the friction material. I guess I need to dig out the micro fiche service bulletins I snagged when the dealer I worked for closed up and get them digitized. Change was '84-'86 as I recall.

ok good going to buy some as its low now. i know auto trans does not give enough lube for the piston linde pumps. we tryed that at work then went back to hyd. oil.
