distributor - exploded view?

What title says. Liking to find the vacuum advance plate and how it works. Right now it won't move. Tractor starts and run great as is.
Idles (tach bouncing a tiny bit) 200 to 400 rpm. Runs up to 2500 rpm no problem.

Brother doesn't want to take distributor apart, fearing something broke and can't be replaced.
Vacuum line clear and diaphragm works.

Brought tractor home today, 11 miles, at 2200 rpm. We installed new brakes and had exhaust/intake manifold milled. Ground around all ports so new gaskets fit prefect - no splitting the sides of gasket cups. Sounds good.

I went back and read your other distributor post. Im glad
your tractor seems to run really well now. At least thats
what I think youre saying. So tractor runs well, but you
think the advance isnt working, correct ? You also want
to understand how the system works ? If it were mine I
would leave it alone until there is an operating issue then
diagnose the problem. To me it sounds like everything is
ok the way it is.

I was looking back at your OP. Seems like you're no sure if your advance is working. Hook up your timing light to #1 and watch the notch on the front
pulley. It should move with changes in RPM.

Well, my brother says the whatever inside isn't moving when manually pulls and pushes on rod.
I'll ask him.....

Brother says it doesn't work. Whatever inside is stuck. Just not a exploded view large enough to see.
Again, brother doesn't want to take apart and find something broke and then unable to put back. Said in all the years as a mechanic he's never had to tear down a distributor to make a vacuum advance work. Usually a kinked or broken, or clogged line or bad diaphragm.

(quoted from post at 14:02:18 10/13/23) Here is the exploded view, just guessing it is a 1650.
Number 11 that the points mount on slides in a slot in
plate number 18. Must be a crappy Prestolite
distributor. Had an IH Scout with that type of design,
points did not hold a gap worth a crap.

Thank you............

I get "This page can t be displayed" My old computer and on Dial Up. Having my sister she if she can get it to show.

Maybe there is a problem with it directing you to a
certain page, here is a link to the AGCO parts book
Home page. If this opens click ..Search by Parts Book..
type in 1650 and it should come up as the 10th result.
Section 78 is the distributor. It may possibly be too
much for dial up. There is a bit of ..loading.. involved
when viewing the pages.

Got to both links, but couldn't go anywhere. Old computer and Dial Up.

What I had to do was copy the links to Word Pad and click on them. Something about clicking on them in YesterdaysTractors replies just wouldn't go.

I'll have sister give it a go.......... Thanks anyway.

If you want another one of those Holley
distributors I have one. You could have it
if you pay shipping. Replaced it with a
Mallory a long time ago.

Painted over I can't tell what brand distributor. Points held from the day I bought it, so over a year. Brother noted, just like all distributors with points they can be a pain setting. Get it where you want it and tighten a bit and the gap moves. He got it though.

Figured on leaving it as is and then tripled that thought with hearing what has to take place. Brother told of what and I was shaking my head No all the while

Sister figured out how to make the picture of exploded view easier to see.

WOW!!!! Messing around, seeing what I want to fix next, I just touched the key, just a tap, and it started and in gear, reverse. Look out garage! I was just a bit faster than greased lightening turning the tractor off. Took a whole lot longer settling down my heart

Well it has a loader on it so probably
needs a clutch. The throw out bearing
grenaded on my 550, almost went through
the back of the barn. Shut the ignition
off real quick. That wakes you up real
quick.
