Oliver 1755 Diesel Mechanical Fuel Pump

I have noticed my mechanical fuel pump is leaking out the gaskets. I looked it up online and if I go with a 1755 specific pump it is anywhere from $189 - $300. It looks like a simple mechanical pump I could get from Napa or Car Quest for less than $100. Has anyone had luck with an automotive style pump or should I just stick with the OEM?

get it from where ever u can get it, its just a fuel pump probably what the old chev's had. take it off then go shopping.

If you have the twin fuel filter system, I'd keep the pump. If you have the later single glass fuel filter/separator setup, you don't need the pump.

Similar to what Rustred said, I sourced a pump for one of my tractors (don't remember which) and when it arrived it was in a fancy Agco box, but there were some generic numbers on the pump itself. So I punched those numbers into the internet and came across the same pump for about $150 less than what I had paid.

Probably replaceable with a cheap electric one too, but if it were me I'd stick with a mechanical one. You might try calling, 'Then and Now Automotive' in Massachusetts. They're excellent at putting rebuild kits together for old mechanical fuel pumps. They have several kits listed o their website, but can make kits for many more in addition to what their website shows. I've had excellent luck rebuilding pumps with parts from them, and their shipping costs aren't too bad.

I appreciate all the help. I just called Korves and they do not have a repair kit for the newer style pump. He indicated that they have had allot of issues with the pumps they have in stock leaking from the shaft as well. I am planning on removing the pump and taking it to the auto parts store to see if I can find something comparable.

Now don't hold me to this, but I believe the pump itself is the same as a Carter M751, but I think the correct pump adds the primer lever.

Just as J said, if your filters are good then there is no need. My pump started leaking over the winter. For a test I left it installed but bypassed it with rubber hose, 100+ hours later doing tilling & haying I have had no issues.
