Oliver 770 - Year built needed

Hello - I have a 770 Oliver tractor. Per the Oliver Corp. plate, the model # is listed as 347-11005 & the Serial # is listed as 195211-021. All my research states the last serial # generated was 193365 in 1967. How can my serial # be higher than the last one made? Any help on a year of my Oliver? Thanks!

Did you get a build card for your tractor? We sold a very late 770 to an older farmer and one of the options he wanted was NLA It was a67 if I remember correctly.

How does the NLA work? Could they have requested a specific serial number? No build card unfortunately. Thanks for your help.

This isn't a 770, but the 600 Olivers run way over where they supposedly end. There are 14 known with
higher serial numbers than where they were supposed to have ended. I have one of the 14. They figure
those were run off later to finish filling an order. They were supposed to end at number 457
something. 12 of the 14 high numbers are 460xxx and two are 462xxx.

I don't think you have a 770. I think you have something similar but different, maybe a 2-62 or something like that, or a hodepodge of parts that was put together over the years. That serial number could've been one of many models, but the 347 prefix model/spec number makes me think industrial of some sort. Can you post pictures or different numbers, say casting number off the engine, etc.?

Is the casting number of the engine 160918A?

Are you sure the specification number is 347 and not 247? I can not find 347 on any of my model lists. 247 is used on the late 770 probably those built after 1963. The serial number was used in 1967 and remember that serial numbers are not tied to the tractor model. Could there have been a run of special built tractors to use up leftover parts? I can't find a 021 transmission code for any Oliver tractor. The Super 77 and 770 transmission codes should start with a 7.

I would recommend getting a build card since this tractor is not in the normal range of numbers.

The most consistent fact I have found when trying to research Oliver tractors is we do not know much.

Hello Norm welcome to YT! Incase you decide to here
is a short rundown on posting pictures here. Pictures
post through the ..Browse or Choose files.. button just
below where it says ..Upload Photos/Videos.. down
lower in the ..New post and reply windows. Clicking
that will give you a choice to select the file or folder
the pictures are stored in on your PC or phone. Then
select the photo from the file and ..Add.. it. They
cannot be pasted into the text area as a file. I would
suggest posting one picture in a reply, then 2 in the
next if you are adding more just to test out the size
limits.

J, the original poster listed his serial number as 195211-021. In the list I have all 770 tractors have a 3 digit transmission code that starts with a 7 followed by two other numbers. My list has 721 as Regular speed, direct drive, row crop or wheatland.
As I have said there is a lot of conflicting information out there and I know yours is collected from your time as a mechanic.

John-

I don't have a 2-62 serial number list (I think they're all incorporated in the 1550 numbers), but I do have notes which include this old Olivergang thread and pay attention to F.S. Weekes' posts: http://olivergang.org/discus/messages/78/59.html

Now what we know is that both the tractor here and in that thread have the same model number prefix (347). The serial number dates both to 1967. It somewhat makes sense that if the final 770 tractor (SN 193365) production ended using the model number prefix of 247 it stands to reason the rest of the 770 units became power paks. Also during the same period, Oliver had a power pak advertisement which showed both 770 and 1550 power paks, and we know they were used by more than a few companies. That ad is in a recent Oliver Heritage or HPOCA issue which featured industrials. So at this point I'm at a loss without more pictures, but I think it stands to reason that when Oliver discontinued the tractor in '67, they used the remaining 770 parts on power paks using the next model number, 347.

As to the transmission codes on the 770, I too have read previous posts that say the three digit transmission codes should start with a 7, but I've seen plenty of 770 tags with 0 in the first position, including late 247 model number serial tags.

This was also on the Oliver and White Facebook page and the tractor is a 770 tractor the 10th from the last one built. They also said that some of those late 770's had some 1550 parts.

Thanks for the update. I'll quit racking my brain. My lists are what Lloyd McCray put together so it's safe to say his list is not exhaustive. I'm assuming someone found a build card for this?

Or do updated lists exist somewhere?
