Massey 44 Flywheel For B427 Continental Engine

Has anyone put a 44 Massey flywheel on a B427 Continental engine? I guess most use a
226 Continental flywheel and bore 6 new holes to fit the 427 crank..The 44 flywheel fits the
427 crank but is bigger around..It looks like a 44 flywheel could be machined to put a 226
ring gear on it in the correct location so that the starter will work with the 226 bell housing..
It looks like the 44 flywheel will just barely fit in the 226 bell housing..

I started to put in a B427 in a 44-4 cylinder chassis years ago. The four cylinder flywheel will bolt right on with no problems if I recall. I had a new bolt on steel plate for the block rear, and used the 44-4 flywheel, clutch housing, and starter. Shortened the drive shaft to move everything back, front pulley was just one inch back of the lower front frame. Was planning on running an electric fan, as there was NO room for one on the water pump. Sold the whole project to a neighbor antique puller, not sure if it's running yet..

Its 400 lbs heavier than the original 226 Continental so should keep the front down..LOL...
Heres a picture of the 1944 101 Senior that the motor is going in..Its a just for fun tractor
as I will have to pull the 4500 Open against tractors with 2-3 times the horsepower...I once
owned a rare 203 Massey tractor with the M330 Continental and never got to hear it run...
When I get this one done I can now go and hear a big Continental any time I feel the urge..
One guy has his 101 with a 427 Continental down to 3500 lbs but I would be happy with
4,000 lbs..

That'll be fun. With a 14.9 tire width limit, it might even be pretty competitive in the 4000 to 4500 pound speed limited classes. Maybe even heavier.

Will the 44 flywheel fit the narrow bell housing to fit the senior frame ?

Make a steel flywheel to match ring gear starter position of the senior with the 427 bolt pattern.
Make a new block plate so the narrow bell will mate up to the 427 back end.

If you machine the 44 flywheel down to use the 226 ring gear it looks like it will fit the 226
bell housing..A steel flywheel would be nice but its out of my price range..I'm only going to
pull it 4-5 times a year and the rpms will be under 3000..I'm going to a friends place today
that has lots of 101 and 44 Massey stuff to do some measuring of flywheels and bell housings.

Dieseltech, not yet. It's well into 600ci now. He got married, so he's been so busy. Maybe late summer he mite get back to it. Although, I like his dads 101 with a Chrysler in it.
