To get the stroke I need, the rod big end hits the cam.I have ground a place on the cam and it clears. But will take two places at each rod. Is there a formula for this. I havent called cam grinder yet.I am wanting to just make cam smaller at every rod. Camshaft is 1.310 reckin I can turn it to 15/16 and it not break?

Have a Billit cam made and or have a set of rods made with off set and or countersunk bolts. If the cam breaks, will likely do major damage. Saw an oliver break a couple years ago that took out the block and a rod with it.

You know how it is. Trying to get by as cheap as possible. You'll be at Princeton? Going to pull the 5000 top cut king of hill? I'm going to see if I can get that many weights on my 435. May have to wait till I'm hooked to the sled to put them on the front. Can't steer it. LOL

I understand just don't let saving a dollar now cost you bunches later. Do plan to make Princeton. Bringing several tires and wheels to try and sell.

A father son team had a JD G and a 4000 respectively, pullers. The G, IIRC was 825 CID. He told me that he had the cam down to around 5/16. The father also told me that his son's 4000 was nearly a full-time job for him, the dad, because it was built so extremely that it needed major work after most hooks. He told me that the cam on the 4000 was nearly as small as the one on his G.

You will have to grind or mill the cam on the other side exactly at 180 degrees from the one you have already done. If it's a 4 cylinder you can do the same spots for the other cylinder that is on the same throw of the crank (#1 and #4). For the other two rotate the cam 90 degrees and grind flats then 180 degrees. If it's a 6 cylinder, once you have the the first cylinder clearing on two revolutions, go to the next cylinder in the firing order and rotate the cam 60 degrees and do that one. Repeat for the rest. I do this on a mill with a head that has degree markings. Also check the cam when you are finished to make sure it isn't bent. More than likely you will have to peen it to get it straight.
